The following activities were carried out on three intensive working days:

  2. Cataract operations in 71 patients in cooperation with the local eye doctors Dr. Medani and Dr. Talha Ali at the expense of VECP.
  3. Vision assessment by local optometrists and handover of 300 eyeglasses to people with poor sight, 100 paid by VECP.  According to the MoU of 2017 this took place in close cooperation with Alhoush Alkabeer Charity Organisation. These glasses are produced by local opticians, warranting enhancement of value in Sennar City.
  4. Handover of pharmaceuticals for use at the eye department of Royal Sennar Hospital, purchased in Vienna with financial support of the Österreichisch-Sudanesische Gesellschaft (OSG: President DI. Paul Slatin).

The mission was continuously supported by Mr. Hassan Malik, mediating all organizational needs and social events.

During the last two days, we visited the

World Heritage Site of the Meroe

Pyramids north of Khartoum, a very

impressive and rewarding experience.

III Future

After this successful project in Sennar, we are provisionally continuing the cooperation, as laid down in the Memorandum of Understanding (2017). Although the Ministry of Health and the government are rather uncertain factors, AACO is our local counterpart in realizing a Sudanese-Austrian Eye Competence Centre,

IV Final remark:

Thanks to all members of

AACO, optometrists and eye doctors for their honorary contributions, both before and during the project. Personal contributions on both sides will be acknowledged in a time sheet and rating. VECP and AACO bilaterally distributed acknowledgement certificates to the project contributors in recognition to their partnership.

Last but not least, we appreciate the substantial financial and personal support of all members of Rotary Club Korneuburg, Austria.
